Kate Douglass made waves at the Doha competition by setting a new American Record in the women's 50 freestyle with a stunning time of 23.91, surpassing Simone Manuel's previous record of 23.97 from the 2017 World Championships. This achievement marks the first time besides Manuel that an American has broken the 24-second mark in this event. Douglass had previously held a personal best of 24.40 before impressively clocking in at 24.19 in the prelims, elevating her to the 5th fastest American all-time and the 8th fastest swimmer globally in the event. Sarah Sjostrom continues to hold the title of the All-Time Top Women's 50 Free Performer with a time of 23.61 from Sweden.
