Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has issued his first statement through a legal representative regarding the six-vehicle collision that occurred in Dallas over the weekend. The police believe that Rice may have been involved in the incident. State Sen. Royce West, who is representing Rice, expressed that the NFL player's thoughts are with everyone impacted by the automobile accident. He also assured that Rice is cooperating with local authorities and will take the necessary steps to address the situation responsibly.
According to Dallas police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman, the department has had discussions with members of Rice's legal counsel. However, they have not yet conducted interviews with individuals potentially involved in the crash. Lowman emphasized that anyone with information about the incident or those who witnessed it should contact the Dallas Police.
Rice has not publicly addressed the situation since it was reported by The Dallas Morning News on Sunday that Dallas police were looking to speak with him in connection to a hit-and-run that occurred on Saturday evening. Law enforcement officials have indicated that a vehicle believed to be associated with Rice was involved in the crash. Although the exact details of Rice's involvement are still unclear, a police call sheet obtained by The News confirmed that law enforcement was searching for him.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the crash occurred when the drivers of a Chevrolet Corvette and a Lamborghini were speeding in the far left lane near University Boulevard. Both drivers lost control of their vehicles, with the Lamborghini careening onto the shoulder and colliding with the center median wall. This caused a chain reaction involving four other vehicles. The occupants of both the Lamborghini and the Corvette fled the scene on foot without stopping to provide assistance or share their information.
As of now, no updates have been released by the police regarding the crash. Four people were injured, with two receiving treatment at the crash site and the other two being taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and official suspects have not yet been identified by the police.
Kansas City Chiefs President Mark Donovan urged patience as officials work on gathering all the necessary information. Donovan emphasized the importance of waiting for all the facts before drawing conclusions. However, he expressed gratitude that no one was seriously hurt in the multi-car crash and assured that the team will gather all the facts and respond accordingly.
In the meantime, Dallas police are requesting that anyone with information about the incident contact Detective Kenneth Watson at Kenneth.watson@dallaspolice.gov.
