In a recent interview, Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones dismissed any thoughts of retirement and expressed his determination to continue playing at a high level. Responding to teammate Travis Kelce's comments about nearing the end of his career, Jones made it clear that retirement is not on his mind.
Jones, who will turn 30 next month, joined the Chiefs in 2016 and signed a new five-year contract extension in March. With his recent remarks, he hinted that he intends to play out the entirety of his deal and even urged Kelce to consider doing the same.
Referring to Kelce's age and remaining years in the league, Jones exclaimed, "We can't let TK go. It's like we retire, we've got to retire together. Give me at least six, four years, then we'll talk about it."
Jones, who has been a formidable force on the Chiefs' defense, also shared his motivations for the upcoming season. He expressed his desire to be part of the first NFL team to win three consecutive championships in the Super Bowl era, a feat that the Chiefs have a chance to accomplish.
Additionally, Jones revealed his personal goal for the season: to reach a minimum of 20 sacks. With a career-high of 15.5 sacks, which he achieved twice, most recently in 2022, Jones aims to surpass his previous records. When asked about the challenge, he proclaimed, "It's tough as hell, but I'm going to do it."
To achieve this ambitious target, Jones acknowledged that he would need everything to align perfectly. He mentioned the importance of divine intervention, luck, the support of his selfless teammates, and the collective effort of the Chiefs' pass rush, which he fondly referred to as "Sack Nation."
As the Chiefs gear up for another promising season, Jones' determination and hunger for success serve as a driving force for the team's pursuit of a historic three-peat in the Super Bowl. With his mindset firmly focused on the present and future, retirement seems like a distant thought for this exceptional defensive talent.
The Chiefs and their fans eagerly await the upcoming season, hoping to witness Chris Jones make NFL history while celebrating the collective achievements of the team as they push boundaries and strive for greatness.
