In a surprising announcement on Wednesday, Justin Thomas revealed that he and his caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay have decided to end their partnership. The duo, who had been working together since late 2021, experienced great success, including a victory at the 2022 PGA Championship. Thomas took to social media to share the news, expressing his gratitude for Mackay's support during a challenging period in his career.

Mackay, a renowned figure in the golfing world, had previously served as Phil Mickelson's caddie until their split in 2017. Following his departure, he transitioned into broadcasting and worked as an on-course reporter for NBC/Golf Channel. However, Mackay made a return to caddying when he joined forces with Thomas.

Earlier this season, Mackay stood in as an analyst for NBC during the Mexico Open, clarifying that he was not interested in permanently filling the vacancy left after Paul Azinger's departure. Currently, Mackay is set to fulfill his commitment as an on-course reporter for NBC's coverage of the Augusta National Women's Amateur event this weekend.

Meanwhile, Thomas has faced challenges in regaining his form since his triumph at the 2022 PGA Championship. Despite missing last year's FedEx Cup playoffs, he managed to secure a place on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Now, heading into the Masters next week, Thomas will have a new caddie by his side. Reports indicate that Matt Minister, who caddied for Patrick Cantlay during his Tour Championship victory in 2021, will take on the role for Thomas in Augusta.

The split between Thomas and Mackay marks the end of an impressive partnership. While Thomas remains optimistic about the future, the change in his caddie could bring a fresh perspective and potentially help him regain his winning ways on the course. As the golfing world eagerly awaits the start of the Masters, all eyes will be on Thomas to see how this new pairing will fare.
