All signs are pointing to Justin Fields taking the reins as the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers when they face off against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The decision comes after the Steelers listed their original starting quarterback, Wilson, as questionable following a second consecutive limited practice session.

Wilson initially suffered a calf injury while pushing a sled during the team's conditioning test the day before training camp began. He spent a significant amount of time rehabilitating, missing out on 10 practices. However, during the preseason, Wilson played six series, displaying promising progress as he seemed to have put the injury behind him.

Unfortunately, during Thursday's practice, Wilson experienced tightness in his calf, which limited his participation. As a result, Fields, the exciting rookie quarterback, took over the first-team reps during Friday's practice session.

With Wilson's availability uncertain due to his injury setback, it is highly likely that Fields will step onto the field as the starting quarterback, leading the Steelers' offense against the Falcons. This serves as an opportunity for Fields to showcase his skills and make an impression in his NFL regular-season debut.

In addition to the quarterback uncertainty, the Steelers have also ruled out wide receiver Roman Wilson (ankle), offensive guard Isaac Seumalo (pectoral), and defensive lineman Logan Lee (calf) for the upcoming game. These absences pose challenges for the Steelers, but they will look to their depth chart and reserves to fill in the gaps.

As Steelers fans eagerly await Sunday's game, the focus will be on Fields as he potentially takes his first steps as the starting quarterback. In an unexpected turn of events, the rookie will have the chance to prove himself on the big stage and demonstrate his capability to lead the team to victory.

It remains to be seen how Wilson's calf injury progression will unfold and whether he will be available in the near future. Until then, the spotlight will be on Fields as he embraces the challenge of leading the Steelers' offense in their quest for a successful start to the 2021 season.
