After bidding an emotional farewell to Liverpool FC, Jürgen Klopp has revealed that he may not return to management anytime soon. The 56-year-old expressed feeling "empty" after the intense strain of his final months in charge at Anfield.
Klopp ended his eight-and-a-half year reign as Liverpool manager on a positive note, with a 2-0 victory over Wolves securing a respectable third-place finish in the Premier League. During his post-match speech to the crowd, Klopp showed his support for his successor, Arne Slot, the former Feyenoord coach, by chanting his name on the pitch.
Despite Klopp's endorsement of Slot, he made it clear that he would only consider a return to management if he feels the "spark" required to work in the game again. In his post-match news conference, he expressed surprise that nobody believes he may not manage again, emphasizing that he has always had the intention of not staying in the role for an extended period.
Klopp further mentioned that he needs to be fully committed, energetic, and passionate about his job, and at the moment, he feels empty. He humorously shared his concern about falling ill due to his goalkeeper coach's constant coughing during the match.
The German coach indicated that he will take some time off before contemplating his next move. Although there will be opportunities, Klopp stated that he is not actively thinking about his next managerial position. For now, he is focusing on rest and taking a break.
Klopp expressed his love for Liverpool and everything about the club but affirmed it was time for him to go. He and his family will return to Germany after attending a fan event in Liverpool next week. However, Klopp reassured fans that he will return to Anfield in the future as a supporter.
"I know I can come back and I will come back," Klopp said. "From today, I'm a Liverpool supporter, and I love that." He mentioned that he plans to attend games occasionally, but perhaps not for the first game of the season, as it may be too early. He hinted at returning after the second international break or similar events.
The football world will surely be waiting to see what Klopp's next move will be. His remarkable success at Liverpool, winning the Premier League, Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup, has solidified his status as one of the most revered managers in modern football.
