Father, Judge Johnny Hardwick, Shot by Son, Khalfani A. Hardwick: Update
Johnny Hardwick, a judge in the 15th Judicial Circuit of Montgomery County, Alabama, is currently in critical condition after an alleged assault and shooting incident by his son, Khalfani A. Hardwick. The incident took place on Saturday following a domestic dispute at Judge Hardwick's residence. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at approximately 1:00 p.m. where it was reported that Judge Hardwick was assaulted and shot by his son. Khalfani Hardwick fled the scene but was later located and taken into custody on U.S. Highway 231. He is facing charges of first-degree domestic violence and unlawful possession of a pistol.
Khalfani Hardwick, who had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in 2014 for shooting another individual, had served no prison time for that offense. Judge Johnny Hardwick has an extensive background in public service, having served in various federal, state, and city positions before being appointed to the circuit court in 2001. He was recently appointed president of the Alabama Association of Circuit Court Judges in August last year. The community is awaiting updates on Judge Hardwick's condition as the investigation into the incident continues.
