In a press conference on Saturday, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh acknowledged that edge rusher Haason Reddick will not be available for the team's season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. Despite Saleh's previous attempts to leave Reddick's status open-ended, it seems that the time has come to officially rule him out of the game.
Reddick, who was acquired by the Jets in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason, briefly reported to the team but did not participate in the offseason program. Furthermore, he opted to hold out of training camp this summer, which has ultimately resulted in his absence from the season opener.
With Reddick sidelined, Saleh mentioned that Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald, Micheal Clemons, and Takk McKinley will carry the responsibility of handling the edge rushing duties. These players will need to step up and fill the void left by Reddick's absence as the Jets aim to have a strong defensive presence against the formidable 49ers' offense.
Additionally, Saleh provided updates on other injured players within the team. Offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer, who sustained a hand injury, and linebacker Zaire Barnes, who suffered an ankle injury, have both been ruled out for the season opener as well. Saleh even mentioned that Schweitzer is a potential candidate for the injured reserve list, which would require him to sit out for a minimum of four games.
As the Jets prepare to kick off their season against Saleh's former team, the 49ers, it is clear that they will be facing some challenges on both the offensive line and the defensive front. With Reddick out and Schweitzer's potential absence, the team will need to rely on their depth and versatility to overcome these setbacks and put up a strong performance on Monday night.
