The New York Jets have made their final roster cuts ahead of the 2024 NFL season, announcing their 53-man squad on Tuesday. General manager Joe Douglas and his personnel staff worked diligently to make 37 moves before the 4 p.m. Eastern deadline, shaping the team for the upcoming campaign.

Among the notable additions to the Jets' defensive line are undrafted free agents Leonard Taylor III, Eric Watts, and Braiden McGregor. The trio impressed throughout the summer, showcasing their skills in the preseason finale against the local rival Giants, where they combined for an impressive four sacks. Takk McKinley, a veteran pass rusher who led the Jets with 2.5 sacks in the last exhibition game, also secured his spot on the initial 53-man roster. McKinley, a first-round pick in 2017, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity given to him by defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich and vowed to prove his worth to the Jets organization.

At the wide receiver position, the Jets made some intriguing choices, including second-year players Jason Brownlee and Irvin Charles. Additionally, Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, Allen Lazard, Malachi Corley, and Xavier Gipson earned their spots on the final roster. The Jets' running back stable features the impressive Israel Abanikanda, who put on a show against the Giants with a 45-yard touchdown run and a team-leading 83 rushing yards. Joining Abanikanda are Breece Hall and rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.

The Jets opted to go with two quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, with Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor both making the cut. On the offensive line, the Jets have a total of 10 players, providing depth and flexibility for the season ahead.

Unfortunately, the Jets had to place defensive tackle Leki Fotu and tight end Kenny Yeboah on injured reserve, meaning they will be sidelined for at least the first four weeks of the regular season. Rookie quarterback Jordan Travis has been placed on the reserve/non-football injury list due to a longer-than-anticipated rehab process from a leg injury sustained last November.

Looking ahead, the Jets will have the opportunity to fill out their practice squad once the waiver window closes on Wednesday afternoon. General manager Joe Douglas and the coaching staff will be considering potential additions to the team's practice squad in the coming days.

With the 53-man roster now set, the New York Jets are ready to take on the challenges of the 2024 season, seeking to make strides and compete in the tough NFL landscape.
