Jets List 31 Players Not Expected to Play in Preseason Match Against Panthers

The New York Jets have announced that 31 players will not be dressing for their upcoming preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. This is an increase of three players compared to their previous game. The Jets' starting quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, will also be on the sideline, dressed as the emergency quarterback but not expected to play.

Last week, the Jets had 28 players listed as non-dressers for their preseason opener against the Washington Football Team. In that game, only two players from the starting lineup saw action. However, in this game, only one player, defensive lineman Micheal Clemons, is expected to dress, while center Joe Tippmann will observe from the sideline.

Head coach Robert Saleh and his coaching staff have decided to rest experienced quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor, opting to give rookie Andrew Peasley and first-year player Adrian Martinez the opportunity to lead the team. In their previous game against the Commanders, Peasley and Martinez combined for four scoring drives and led the Jets to a comeback victory.

The Jets' offense will be led by wide receivers Jason Brownlee and Malachi Corley, as Garrett Wilson will not be playing. In the running back position, Breece Hall will be absent, allowing rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, along with second-year back Izzy Abanikanda, to take charge. On the offensive line, starting tackle Olu Fashanu is expected to play again after logging 25 snaps in the previous game.

On the defensive side, Clemons and second-year edge rusher Will McDonald are anticipated to be the driving forces on the outside. Inside, veteran Leki Fotu, who started last week, will be joined on the sideline by Javon Kinlaw. Cornerbacks Jarrick Bernard-Converse and rookie Qwan'tez Stiggers will lead the secondary unit.

Panthers coach Dave Canales, who sat out 33 players in their previous preseason game, has yet to reveal his lineup decisions against the Jets. However, it is speculated that the Panthers may follow a similar strategy and rest most of their starters, including quarterback Bryce Young, the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Jets and Panthers have faced each other in three previous summer games, with the road team emerging victorious in all three encounters. The Panthers won 17-12 at MetLife Stadium in 2017, while the Jets secured wins of 9-3 in 2010 and 27-0 in last year's preseason matchup.

As the Jets and Panthers prepare to face off on Saturday night, it will be a chance for lesser-known players to shine and make their case for a spot on the roster as the regular season approaches.
