Ground and air assaults conducted by the Israeli forces have led to the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, to become nonoperational, as confirmed by the enclave's Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) on Sunday. The siege on the hospital intensified this week, resulting in only four medical staff members being able to care for around 200 patients. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreysus emphasized that at least 20 patients require urgent referral to other hospitals for healthcare, and delays in this crucial process could impact patients' lives.
Israeli soldiers raided the hospital where displaced Palestinians were seeking refuge, leading to the arrest of hospital directors and staff by Israeli forces. Additionally, an aid convoy led by the United Nations was detained for seven hours while attempting to reach the hospital.
Despite the challenges faced by the Nasser Hospital, al-Amal Hospital remains the only major medical facility operational in Khan Younis, albeit being targeted by Israeli attacks. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that Israeli forces targeted the third floor of al-Amal Hospital with artillery fire.
The Israeli military's siege on Khan Younis and its medical facilities continues as they advance further south into Rafah on the border with Egypt. Amidst the escalating violence and imminent ground attack on Rafah threatened by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, displaced Palestinians are left in a humanitarian crisis with limited medical staff and supplies. The situation is exacerbated by restrictions imposed by Israel on the delivery of aid, exacerbating the shortage of essential medical resources.
