The 108th running of the Indy 500, scheduled to take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, may face a network change if the race is delayed from Sunday to Monday. The coverage, originally set to be broadcast live on NBC, could be moved to USA Network.
Weather forecasts are predicting rain and possibly thunderstorms at the Speedway throughout Sunday afternoon, raising concerns about the 200-lap race being pushed back to Memorial Day on Monday. In the event of a delay, NBC has already confirmed that the Indy 500 would not be aired on their network on Monday, as their coverage is reserved for tennis. Instead, the race would be broadcast on USA Network.
It is important to note that a potential Monday start time is not guaranteed to be the same as the original Sunday schedule. Weather conditions could still cause further disruptions, with the race possibly starting on Sunday and then being suspended, leading to fewer laps being completed on Monday.
USA Network, which took over from NBC Sports Network earlier this year, is an alternate network owned by NBCUniversal. Out of the 18 races on the 2024 IndyCar schedule, six were originally slated to be broadcast on USA Network. However, so far this year, only the race on the streets of Long Beach, California, has been shown on the network. The remaining two races not on NBC are exclusive to the Peacock streaming platform and are scheduled for later in the season.
Indy 500 fans eagerly awaiting the race can stay up-to-date with the action by starting a free trial of FuboTV. Regardless of when the race takes place or which network broadcasts it, this streaming service ensures that fans won't miss any of the on-track excitement.
As the anticipation builds for the 108th running of the Indy 500, race organizers and broadcasters are closely monitoring the weather and making necessary arrangements to ensure that fans can still enjoy the iconic event, even if it means changing networks.
