Iconic 'Candyman' Actor Tony Todd Passes Away at 69

Goldberg expressed his deep sorrow, stating, "I can confirm that my friend and client of over 30 years, Tony Todd, has passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11:50 p.m. peacefully at his home in Marina Del Rey. I am lucky to have been able to work with this amazing man and I will miss him every single day." The cause of death has not been disclosed.

With a career spanning four decades, Todd's presence graced varied genres. Beginning his on-screen journey in 1986, Todd's filmography includes roles in the Academy Award-winning "Platoon" and the popular "Final Destination" series. His portrayal of Daniel Robitaille in the 1992 horror film "Candyman" remains his most iconic role. Robitaille, a ghostly figure of a black artist wronged in life, captivated audiences and established Todd as a legend in the genre. He reprised this role in the 2021 sequel, starring alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen, who portrayed an artist captivated by the Candyman legend.

Virginia Madsen, Todd's co-star in the original "Candyman" film, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. "The great actor Tony Todd has left us and now is an angel. As he was in life. More later but I can't right now. I love you," she wrote, reflecting the profound impact Todd had on those he worked with.

New Line Cinema, the studio behind the "Final Destination" franchise, mourned Todd’s loss with a poignant message on Instagram: "The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony."

Born on December 4, 1954, in Washington, D.C., Todd’s passion for acting led him to study at the Eugene O'Neill National Theatre Institute and the Trinity Repertory Conservatory. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is survived by his wife Fatima and their two children.
