In a groundbreaking move, Hyundai has revealed that the upcoming 2025 Ioniq 5 will be one of the first non-Tesla vehicles to feature a native Tesla-based charging port. This revolutionary development, known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS), will be built directly into the car from the factory, eliminating the need for adapters or additional accessories.

Last year, numerous automakers selling electric vehicles in the US announced their adoption of the NACS connector. However, most manufacturers have yet to incorporate this port into their vehicles, leaving customers dependent on costly CCS to NACS adapters provided by Tesla. Although the eagerly awaited Rivian R2 prototypes have been spotted sporting NACS compatibility, their release is not scheduled until 2026.

Owners of the new 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 will no longer require an adapter when charging at Tesla stations, as the company will provide a dongle that works in the opposite direction for cases when only Combined Charging System (CCS) plugs are available. This convenience adds to the overall appeal and usability of the Ioniq 5, making it a favorable choice among electric vehicle enthusiasts.

Aside from the Tesla-compatible charging port, Hyundai has also boosted the battery capacity of the 2025 Ioniq 5 lineup. Standard Range models will now sport batteries ranging from 58.0 to 63.0 kWh, providing a targeted range of 240-plus miles on a single charge, surpassing the existing 220-mile range of the current model. The Long Range models, on the other hand, will feature larger batteries with capacities ranging from 77.4 to 84 kWh, resulting in an estimated range increase from 303 miles to over 310 miles for the Long Range plus RWD combination.

Hyundai is set to produce this newly upgraded version of the Ioniq 5 in its state-of-the-art factory located in Georgia, USA. Production is scheduled to commence in the fall, offering potential buyers the opportunity to qualify for a $3,750 federal tax credit for electric vehicles right from the beginning of sales. Moreover, Hyundai anticipates additional federal incentives to be introduced, providing further benefits for those interested in owning this cutting-edge electric vehicle.

Furthermore, Hyundai is introducing a rugged XRT package with an off-road appeal reminiscent of Ford's Mustang Mach-E Rally, catering to adventurous drivers who seek both performance and versatility in their electric vehicle.

With its forward-thinking advancements and commitment to eco-friendly mobility, the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle landscape when it hits the market.
