Title: Husband Awarded $1.3 Million in Partial Settlement Following Tragic DUI Crash on Wedding Night

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a bride was killed on her wedding night after being involved in an alleged DUI crash in South Carolina. Now, her devastated husband, Aric Hutchinson, has been awarded just over $1.3 million in a partial settlement according to court documents filed in Charleston County Court.

The incident occurred on April 28, 2023, when Hutchinson and his new wife, Samantha Miller, left their wedding reception in Folly Beach, South Carolina. As they drove away, tragedy struck as an alleged drunk driver crashed into their vehicle. Miller tragically lost her life in the accident, while Hutchinson sustained multiple injuries.

A judge recently ruled in Hutchinson's favor, granting him approximately $1.3 million in the partial settlement. The defendants listed in the wrongful death settlement include Folly Beach Deli/The Drop In Bar & Deli, The Crab Shack, Beach Front Bars, Snapper Jacks, Progressive Northern Insurance Company, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. It is alleged that these businesses either served the driver alcohol or rented her the vehicle involved in the crash.

The settlement amount, while significant, will be reduced after attorney and legal fees are deducted. The breakdown of payments, as stated in court documents, reveals that The Crab Shack is ordered to pay $640,000, The Folly Deli/The Drop In Bar & Deli is to pay $320,000, while Beach Front Bars/Snapper Jack's and Progressive Northern Insurance Company are each responsible for $320,000 and $75,000 respectively. Additionally, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is required to pay $24,000.

CNN reached out to the aforementioned businesses for comment, but there has been no response so far. It is important to note that a wrongful death lawsuit has also been filed by Hutchinson against Jamie Lee Komoroski, the individual accused of crashing the rented vehicle into Hutchinson and his new bride's golf cart after they left the reception. Komoroski has been charged with reckless homicide and three counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily harm. She pleaded not guilty to these charges.

According to a report from the Folly Beach Police Department, Komoroski was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.261%, well above the legal limit of 0.08% in South Carolina. These findings further support the claims made against her.

While no amount of money can bring back a loved one, Hutchinson's settlement is a small measure of justice for the tragedy he has experienced. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from driving under the influence and highlights the importance of responsible alcohol service and the duty of car rental companies to exercise caution.

CNN will continue to follow this story and provide updates as it develops.
