Airlines in the United States were forced to cancel and delay over 1,300 flights on Monday as Hurricane Beryl intensified and made landfall in Texas. According to flight tracking website FlightAware, a total of 1,331 flights were canceled and 505 flights were delayed as of 6.06 a.m. ET.

Leading the list of affected airlines was United Airlines, with 406 flights canceled, followed closely by Southwest Airlines with 268 cancellations. Both carriers issued travel advisories stating that Hurricane Beryl was impacting flights in airports including Austin, Corpus Christi, Harlingen, and Houston, among others in the region.

Hurricane Beryl, which caused widespread destruction in the Caribbean, resulting in the loss of at least 11 lives, had intensified into a category 1 hurricane. The U.S. National Hurricane Center warned that it could potentially strengthen into a category 2 hurricane by landfall on Monday.

As a precautionary measure, the largest ports in Texas also suspended operations and vessel traffic on Sunday due to the intensifying storm. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration had previously issued a warning about thunderstorms affecting travel across the country.

The impact of Hurricane Beryl on the airline industry and travel in general has been significant, with thousands of passengers facing disruptions due to flight cancellations and delays. Travelers are advised to check with their respective airlines for updated flight information and to exercise caution while making travel plans during this tumultuous time.
