A man in China narrowly escaped death after a harrowing fall down a steep mountainside was captured on video. Yang Meng, 42, was hiking through the Fanzengjian mountains in Anhui province, west of Shanghai, when he slipped on rain-slicked rocks and tumbled uncontrollably downhill.
The dramatic footage of the incident, recorded on a hand-held 360-degree camera, has garnered over 445,000 shares on Douyin, China's equivalent of TikTok. In an interview with CNN, Meng recounted the heart-pounding moment when he realized he was sliding off a cliff, likening the experience to a human slip'n'slide.
Fortunately, Meng's fall was abruptly halted when he collided with a tree, likely saving his life. Despite the terrifying plunge, he emerged with only minor injuries, including bruises on his leg and cuts on his hand and thigh. Viewers on Douyin expressed amazement at his miraculous survival, emphasizing the importance of cherishing every day, a sentiment echoed by Meng himself.
The incident occurred following heavy rains that battered the region, possibly exacerbated by typhoons Yagi and Bebinca. Typhoon Bebinca, described as the strongest storm to hit Shanghai in 75 years, made landfall on Monday, prompting the evacuation of over 400,000 people. The storm caused widespread disruptions, including flooded roads, power outages, closed schools, and cancelled flights.
