### Bengals' Taylor Unfazed by Chase's Postgame Comments
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor addressed comments made by star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase following the team's recent loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, clarifying that he has no issues with the player's emotionally charged statements.
After the Bengals fell to 4-7, Chase was asked to elaborate on what "finishing" means to him, referencing the team’s struggles this season. "Ask Zac," Chase responded. "Ask the coaches. That's not my job. I play football on the field. I don't call plays for us."
Taylor, addressing the media, stated that he believed Chase's comments were made in the heat of the moment and were not intended to be confrontational. "He's emotional, and when you got a guy that works as hard as he does, leaves it all on the field, I do think things - I don't want to say 'misconstrued' - but can look differently than what they really are," said Taylor.
The head coach emphasized his deep respect for Chase’s work ethic. "He's one of the most genuine players I've ever been around. I don't have problems with guys that work as hard as they do, speaking with emotion after the game," he added. Taylor noted that he and Chase talk regularly and are in agreement about the team’s direction.
This isn't the first time a Bengals player has voiced frustrations publicly. As a rookie, Chase had previously critiqued Taylor's play-calling after a narrow 20-17 loss to Chicago, suggesting the team waited too long to attempt deep passes. Taylor addressed the criticism by explaining that sometimes defensive coverages prevent such plays.
Similarly, in Taylor's inaugural season with the Bengals, wide receiver Tyler Boyd expressed dissatisfaction with his limited involvement in a 17-10 loss to Oakland. Boyd had only one catch for zero yards on three targets during that game. In response, Taylor acknowledged the validity of Boyd’s concerns and emphasized the ongoing dialogue within the team to address such issues.
Taylor explained that these types of conversations are part of building a strong rapport with his players. "These are things that we try to be proactive about, to put these guys in the best position possible to succeed," he said, pointing out that the team makes a conscious effort to fully involve Chase in the gameplan.
Despite the occasional postgame emotions, Taylor remains committed to a collaborative approach. "I always love the dialogue with him in terms of gameplan, how we're going to use you," he said of Chase. "He acts like a captain in so many ways."
Reaffirming his support for Chase, Taylor concluded, "Love working with him. Thankful that he's on our team. Love everything he brings to the table. We all want to win, and when you don't, it can lead to frustration. But I feel very confident we're on the same page and we'll be good going forward."
