In the hunt for a reliable kicker, the Green Bay Packers have made a significant move by waiving kicker Jack Podlesny, narrowing their competition down to two remaining contenders. The team announced this decision on Wednesday, leaving Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph to battle it out for the coveted role.

Anders Carlson, the incumbent kicker, was chosen by the Packers in the sixth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft. However, his rookie season was marked by some struggles, as he missed six field goals and five extra points. Determined to redeem himself, Carlson aims to prove his worth and secure his place as the Packers' primary kicker.

Greg Joseph, who previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, is also vying for the Green Bay kicking position. Last season, during his fifth year in the NFL, Joseph missed six field goals and two extra points. While he may have faced challenges with accuracy, Joseph brings valuable experience to the table and is eager to display his skills for the Packers.

The third kicker in the competition, Jack Podlesny, has the least experience among the group. As a first-year player, Podlesny emerged from the University of Georgia and signed with the Vikings as an undrafted rookie in 2023. Despite being cut from the Vikings during training camp, Podlesny found an opportunity with the Packers in January.

Podlesny's collegiate success is worth noting, as the former walk-on at Georgia boasted an impressive 82.4 percent success rate on field goals. Although his time with the Packers may have come to an end, his journey as a young kicker is far from over, and he may yet find further opportunities in the NFL.

With the departure of Podlesny, the competition between Carlson and Joseph becomes even more intense, as each kicker looks to secure their place on the Packers' roster. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, the organization will closely evaluate both performers before making their final decision on who will take on the crucial role of the team's kicker.
