In a recent roster update, the Green Bay Packers have made significant changes to their running back lineup. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced on Tuesday that the team has signed RB Chris Brooks to the active roster from the practice squad, while also placing RB MarShawn Lloyd on injured reserve.
Brooks, standing at 6-1 and weighing 219 pounds, is a second-year player who previously played for the Miami Dolphins. He initially joined the Green Bay Packers' practice squad on September 3. The undrafted free agent, signed by the Dolphins on May 12, 2023, played in nine games during his rookie season, where he showcased his talent with 19 carries for 106 yards, averaging an impressive 5.6 yards per carry. He also had the opportunity to participate in a postseason contest.
Prior to his professional career, Brooks spent four years at the University of California-Berkeley from 2018 to 2021. He then transferred to BYU for one season in 2022, where he made a significant impact with 130 carries for 817 yards and six touchdowns. His remarkable rushing average of 6.3 yards per carry ranked as the fourth-best in the single-season history of BYU.
On the other hand, MarShawn Lloyd, who has been an integral part of the Packers' running back corps, unfortunately finds himself on the injured reserve list. The specifics of his injury were not disclosed in the announcement made by the team. Placing Lloyd on injured reserve will allow him to recover and receive the necessary medical attention before potentially returning to the field.
These roster moves indicate the Green Bay Packers' determination to strengthen their lineup and adapt to any changes or challenges during the season. The addition of Chris Brooks brings depth to the running back position, while the team hopes for a speedy recovery for MarShawn Lloyd.
With these changes in place, the Packers will continue their preparations for the upcoming games as they strive for success on the field.
