Google Reminds Nest Secure and Dropcam Owners to Prepare for Discontinued Support

On April 8, Nest Secure, Dropcam, and Dropcam Pro smart home devices will cease to function, and Google is issuing a final reminder to users, particularly those who own the Nest x Yale Lock, to switch to a Nest Connect.
The discontinuation of the Dropcam and Dropcam Pro was announced a year ago, and these cameras will no longer be controllable through the Nest app. While existing footage history will still be accessible for a limited time (5-60 days, depending on Nest Aware tier), no new recordings can be made.
It's important to note that Nest Aware subscriptions will not be automatically canceled, and they will continue to work with other devices in the home if covered. However, first-gen single device Nest Aware subscriptions can be canceled through either the home.nest.com website or the Google Home app for users with a Google Account.
To compensate for the discontinuation, Google has offered free replacements of Nest Cam (indoor, wired) to owners of these older models. The deadline to redeem this offer is May 7, 2024.
Additionally, Nest Secure support will come to an end next Monday. However, owners of Nest Secure devices have the option to receive a free ADT Self Setup System or $200 Google Store Credit as an alternative. They have until mid-May to take advantage of this offer.
For users who rely on the Nest Secure's Guard to connect their Nest x Yale Lock to Wi-Fi, Google advises using a Nest Connect instead. Those who already have a Nest Connect might need to relocate it closer to their Nest x Yale Lock to establish the Wi-Fi connection.
Users can also utilize a passcode to continue using their lock via the keypad while it is offline. Passcodes must be created by April 7, 2024, during the period when Nest Guard is still supported. Detailed instructions to set a passcode can be found on the provided link.
As the end of support for these devices approaches, Google is taking measures to ensure customers are well-informed and prepared for the necessary changes.
