### Goff's Perfect Performance Leads Lions Over Seahawks in MNF Showdown

**Detroit** - On Monday night, the Seattle Seahawks defense seemed like a shadow of its usual self against the Detroit Lions, resulting in a 42-29 defeat. This game, which was expected to be a stern test, exposed significant flaws in Seattle's defense.

The Seahawks, coming into Week 4 undefeated with a record of 3-0 and boasting a top-ranked defense according to EPA per play, were caught off guard. Linebacker Tyrel Dodson candidly remarked, “We didn't bring our 'A' game, man.” In stark contrast, Jared Goff had a flawless performance for the Lions, completing all 18 of his passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns. Goff's night was historic, setting single-game records for attempts and yards without an incompletion. Despite being sacked three times, he was largely unhampered, slicing through Seattle's defense with ease.

The game revealed inefficiencies in the Seahawks' defense that hadn't been as apparent against previous opponents like Bo Nix and Jacoby Brissett. Seattle’s new leadership is facing familiar challenges, as the defense appeared disorganized, allowing explosive plays both on the ground and through the air. Defensive tackle Jarran Reed acknowledged, "We've just gotta do better."

Offensively, Geno Smith gave an exceptional performance, completing 38 of 56 passes for 395 yards and a touchdown—setting career highs. He also contributed 38 yards on five rush attempts. However, it was clear that relying solely on Smith isn’t a sustainable strategy for the season. Ken Walker III returned to the lineup and offered some balance with 80 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries, but the offensive efforts alone weren’t enough to secure a win.

A key turning point came when DK Metcalf fumbled while fighting for extra yardage, leading to a 49-yard return by Detroit, which set up a touchdown and put the Lions ahead 14-0. Despite Smith's last-second interception on a heave into the end zone in an attempt to close the 13-point gap, his dedication to leading the team was evident. “I have no problem putting the game in my hand,” Smith said. “Whenever that's the situation, I just gotta do whatever I gotta do to make the right plays.”

The loss is a wake-up call for the Seahawks, showing that they need a holistic approach to face strong teams like the Lions. If Seattle hopes to maintain their position as a playoff contender, they must rectify their defensive woes quickly and ensure that both sides of the ball are playing at a high level.
