Country music legend George Strait has once again made history with his monumental musical career. On Saturday, Strait performed before a crowd of 110,905 fans at Texas A&M's Kyle Field in College Station, marking the largest ticketed concert in U.S. history, according to Billboard.
This groundbreaking achievement has surpassed the previous record set by the Grateful Dead, who played before 107,019 attendees during a 1977 show at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey. Although Strait now holds the title for the largest ticketed musical performance, it's important to note that there have been larger crowds at some music festivals and free concerts held in the U.S.
One notable example is the 1986 performance by the New York Philharmonic in Central Park, which drew an estimated 800,000 people. Additionally, American Songwriter reports that Rod Stewart attracted a reputed 3.5 million fans to Brazil's Copacabana Beach in 1994 for what could be the largest audience ever for a concert.
However, Strait's record-breaking concert is just one of many accolades he has achieved throughout his career. Billboard confirms that Strait holds the record for the most No.1 singles of any artist in any genre, and he is the only artist to have a top 10 hit every year for three decades. Additionally, his official website states that he holds over 20 attendance records at music venues across the United States.
Fans can expect even more from the legendary artist, as his highly anticipated album "Cowboys and Dreamers" is set to be released in September. Strait will continue to captivate audiences with upcoming performances in Salt Lake City later this month, followed by shows in Detroit and Chicago in July.
George Strait's remarkable ability to break records and captivate fans with his timeless music continues to solidify his status as one of country music's greatest icons.
