Strait's concert at Texas A&M's football stadium surpassed the venue's official capacity, thanks to a stage setup that allowed for a large number of fans on the field. The previous record for the largest crowd at a ticketed concert in the United States was held by The Grateful Dead, who attracted 107,019 fans at a 1977 concert at Raceway Park in New Jersey.
