In a recent interview with CNN, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis asserted that her reputation remains untarnished as she proceeds with the 2020 election interference case against former President Trump. Refuting accusations of an improper relationship with the special counsel she hired, Willis confidently stated that she had done nothing illegal.
Despite a two-month delay in the racketeering case, Willis emphasized that her team has maintained their momentum. "My team's been continuing to work it... We were still doing the case in the way that it needed to be done," she confirmed. While acknowledging efforts to impede progress, Willis expressed her determination to see the case through, firmly asserting, "the train is coming."
The allegations against Willis arose when Trump and several co-defendants claimed a romantic connection between Willis and Nathan Wade, the prosecutor she had hired. Additionally, they alleged that Willis was financially benefiting from Wade's position in her office. However, both Willis and Wade vehemently denied these allegations.
Following a thorough review of the evidence presented in court, Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee issued an ultimatum to Willis—either recuse herself from the case or terminate Wade. Shortly after the judge's order, Wade resigned, allowing Willis to remain on the case.
While McAfee ruled that the defendants failed to demonstrate an actual conflict of interest between Willis and Wade, he emphasized the appearance of impropriety within the prosecution team. The judge also stated that his ruling should not be seen as an endorsement of the District Attorney's unprofessional conduct during the evidentiary hearing.
McAfee has granted the Trump team a 10-day window to appeal his decision. Meanwhile, Willis remains steadfast in pursuing justice and plans to continue the prosecution of the election interference case.
