### FTC Antitrust Case Against Amazon Moves Forward with Partial Dismissals

In a significant development, the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) antitrust lawsuit against Amazon is set to proceed. This lawsuit accuses the e-commerce giant of suppressing competition within the online retail sector. Alongside the FTC, several states had joined in the legal battle, though some of their claims have now been dismissed by the court.

The FTC’s lawsuit, initiated last year, argues that Amazon.com, which boasts an inventory of 1 billion items in its vast online store, employed an algorithm designed to elevate prices, thus costing U.S. households more than $1 billion. Court documents reveal that Amazon reportedly ceased using this algorithm in 2019.

Amazon has consistently maintained this position in its court papers, asserting that they discontinued the controversial program four years ago. Despite this, the primary case concerning antitrust allegations remains active, with the FTC aiming to demonstrate that Amazon’s past practices have had lasting negative impacts on market competition and consumer pricing.

This ongoing legal confrontation underscores the increasing scrutiny on major tech companies and their influence over market prices and competition dynamics. As the case advances, it will shed further light on the practices of online retail giants and the measures regulatory bodies are willing to take to ensure fair competition.
