In chilling news, a Missouri hospital has confirmed that individuals who braved the frigid Kansas City Chiefs-Miami Dolphins wild card round game in January had to undergo amputations due to severe cases of frostbite. Research Medical Center in Kansas City revealed that 12 patients, who were treated for frostbite during the cold snap two months ago, including some who had attended the game at Arrowhead Stadium on January 13, required amputations primarily involving fingers and toes.

The hospital further stated that additional surgeries are anticipated over the next two to four weeks. While an exact count of frostbite victims during the 11-day cold spell was not disclosed by Research Medical Center, Dr. Megan Garcia from the Grossman Burn Center at the hospital informed FOX 4 that around 70% of these patients are now being advised to schedule amputations.

"The patients who sustained frostbite injuries along with the Chiefs game are now reaching the point where we are starting discussions about the potential necessity of amputations," Dr. Garcia remarked.

The game between the Chiefs and Dolphins took place amidst bone-chilling temperatures. The kickoff temperature stood at a bone-chilling minus-4 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind gusts plummeting to a frigid minus-27 degrees Fahrenheit. These conditions made it the fourth-coldest game in the history of the NFL.

Despite the extreme cold, ardent Chiefs fans flocked to the stadium, braving the freezing air. Some were seen without sufficient layers, while others were even spotted in the stands showing off exposed skin during the game. Kansas City is known for its passionate fan base, who exude unwavering support for their beloved team, regardless of the weather conditions.

It is worth noting that the coldest game ever recorded in NFL history was the infamous 1967 NFL championship, commonly referred to as the "Ice Bowl." During this match, played at a bitter minus-13 Fahrenheit at Lambeau Field, the Green Bay Packers triumphed over the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite the unfortunate incident, the Chiefs went on to secure victory in the game against the Dolphins, marking their first playoff win on their path to back-to-back Super Bowl triumphs. Subsequently, they battled the Buffalo Bills in another freezing encounter in upstate New York before triumphing over the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game in Baltimore.

The Chiefs ultimately made their way to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII, where they secured an overtime victory against the San Francisco 49ers, emerging as the champions, with a final score of 25-22.

The amputations resulting from frostbite among attendees of the Chiefs-Dolphins game serve as a reminder of the harsh consequences that extreme weather conditions can pose. This incident highlights the importance of prioritizing personal safety and taking necessary precautions to protect oneself from the dangers of severe cold.
