In a bid to offer more comfort and space to its passengers, budget airline Frontier Airlines has announced the launch of its UpFront Plus option. Starting April 10, passengers will have the opportunity to secure a seat in the first two rows of Frontier's Airbus planes, with the added benefit of having no middle seat neighbor.
The UpFront Plus option aims to provide travelers with a more spacious and relaxed flying experience. The seats in the first two rows will have four to five inches of extra legroom compared to the majority of seats on the plane, offering increased comfort during long flights.
To ensure passengers have ample personal space, Frontier will be blocking the sale of the middle seat in the UpFront Plus section. This means that passengers who choose this option will have the luxury of not having someone seated beside them, providing a sense of privacy and more space to relax.
The UpFront Plus option will be available for bookings made between now and March 20, with prices starting at $49. Passengers can take advantage of this offer for flights scheduled between April 10 and April 30. Frontier's spokesperson has clarified that this option is not a limited-time offer, suggesting that it will be a permanent addition to their services.
Frontier Airlines is not the only budget carrier to offer such upgrades to its customers. Fellow budget airline Spirit Airlines already offers a similar option called the "Big Front Seat" in its Airbus cabins, catering to passengers who wish to have a more spacious and comfortable experience.
Airlines across the spectrum, from budget carriers like Spirit and Frontier, to larger airlines such as Delta, United, and American, have been exploring ways to enhance their cabin experiences and generate additional revenue. Segmenting cabins, selling higher-priced products, and implementing fees for advance seat selection have become common strategies in the industry.
For budget airlines like Frontier, fees play a significant role in their revenue stream. In 2022, Frontier generated an average of $42 per passenger from airfare, which saw a decrease of 22% from the previous year. However, nonfare revenue increased by 1%, reaching almost $74 per passenger.
With the introduction of the UpFront Plus option, Frontier aims to cater to travelers seeking a more spacious and comfortable travel experience without breaking the bank. As the airline industry continues to evolve, providing such enhanced options for passengers has become a priority for airlines across the board.
