Jane Sibbett, known for her role as Ross' ex-wife Carol on the iconic sitcom "Friends," has traded the glitz of Hollywood for a new life dedicated to energy healing. In a recent interview with People, the 62-year-old actress shared insights into her transformative journey, emphasizing her burgeoning passion for spirituality and energy work after relocating to Hawaii about a decade ago with her then-husband, Karl Fink.
The move to Hawaii seemed to be a major life pivot for Sibbett. She opened up about the emotional trials she faced post-divorce, recounting how the heartbreak catalyzed her spiritual pursuit. "I was on my knees because I was really brokenhearted by everything, and part of that was my stuff that I had to deal with," Sibbett confessed.
Before her Hawaiian adventure, Sibbett was already engaged in the spiritual sphere, hosting goddess circles for women. Following her split, she became involved with energy healer Abdy Electriciteh, who was producing a documentary she worked on. Electriciteh's influence propelled her deeper into energy healing, eventually leading her to assist him in producing a live energy healing event.
Sibbett's transition into energy healing was organic and unplanned. "It was a perfect synthesis of my belief in the gift of him [and] what he was doing and me coming off of 'Friends,'" she said. She recounted her initial foray into energy healing, which involved introducing Electriciteh to crowds and sharing personalized stories each time. This continuous connection with people helped her realize the profound effect of what she calls "source energy or God energy."
Unlike many in her newfound field, Sibbett doesn’t rely on formal training. Instead, she has developed a unique "dancing hands" technique, which she feels was inspired by Electriciteh. "I wouldn’t call it Reiki," she explained, attributing the spontaneous emergence of her technique to an innate ability rather than learned practice. "I believe in it, I trust it [but] it’s just not what I do. This wasn’t trained. This just came in fully fleshed, immediately," she noted.
Even though Sibbett has left Hollywood behind, she believes her acting background has been instrumental in her new career. "Every actor worth their salt knows that they are embodied by the character. At some point, you give yourself over," she reflected, indicating that her ability to let herself go as an actress has been crucial in her energy healing practices.
Sibbett, who featured in 15 episodes of "Friends" and played a part in television history's first lesbian wedding, is currently working on a memoir detailing her career shift. Despite her significant role in one of TV's most beloved series, she revealed that she has never watched "Friends" in its entirety. "I’m that girl who just doesn't watch what she's already done," Sibbett admits.
