In a significant development, the fourth individual wanted in connection with the mass shooting near a SEPTA bus stop in North Philadelphia has been apprehended. Asir Boone, a 17-year-old, was captured without incident at a female associate's apartment in Alexandria, Virginia, on Tuesday, March 19. The U.S. Marshals Service and the USMS Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force were responsible for the arrest.
Boone, who was wanted on attempted murder charges, will be processed by the Alexandria Police Department. It remains unclear if he has legal representation. The arrest comes after three other individuals, Ahnile Buggs, Jermahd Carter, and Jamaal Tucker, were already taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the mass shooting. No attorneys representing these men have provided comments so far, according to NBC10.
The shooting incident occurred on Wednesday, March 6, around 3 p.m. at a bus stop located at the intersection of Cottman and Rising Sun avenues in Philadelphia's Burholme neighborhood. Students from Northeast High School had gathered at the bus stop, where a blue Hyundai Sonata, reported stolen but later recovered, pulled up across the street. Three armed individuals exited the vehicle and opened fire on the crowd.
Tragically, eight Northeast High School students were injured in the shooting, including one 16-year-old who sustained nine gunshot wounds. At the time, he was the only victim listed in critical condition, as stated by the police. The stolen vehicle used in the shooting was discovered later that evening on the 400 block of Fern Street in Olney. Detectives obtained surveillance footage that captured the suspects exiting the car and entering a nearby residence.
Through the investigation, authorities identified Jamaal Tucker as a suspect. Court documents revealed that Tucker and Ahnile Buggs' cellphones were tracked to the shooting location and the area where the stolen vehicle was found. It is still unknown if the March 6 shooting was related to a prior incident that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old. However, an affidavit charging Buggs included a phone conversation with an inmate, allegedly Buggs' uncle, discussing the earlier homicide at 6200 Ogontz Ave.
The arrest of Asir Boone is a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the North Philadelphia mass shooting. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their efforts to gather more information and bring all those responsible to justice.
