NBC Sports California has appointed Chris Caray as the play-by-play announcer for its live coverage of the Oakland Athletics, the network announced on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Caray joins Jenny Cavnar, who was recently named as the primary play-by-play voice for the A's coverage. Notably, Caray is the fourth generation in his family to serve as a Major League Baseball play-by-play announcer, following in the footsteps of his father, Chip, his grandfather Skip, and his great-grandfather Harry.

Chris Caray, along with his identical twin brother Stefan, most recently handled play-by-play duties for the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the Arizona Diamondbacks' Double-A affiliate, and the Arizona Fall League. Furthermore, he previously served as the play-by-play announcer for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League and gained experience calling games for Valdosta State University baseball and Georgia-Gwinnett College baseball, softball, and soccer.

Expressing enthusiasm for his new role, Caray stated, "Ever since I was a 12-year-old kid, I dreamed of becoming a Major League broadcaster. I'm thrilled that that dream has come true, and I am honored and proud to join a franchise with the rich history of the Oakland A's." He looks forward to working alongside his new partners, Jenny Cavnar and Dallas Braden, in the broadcast booth for the upcoming season.

Matt Murphy, President & General Manager of NBC Sports California and NBC Sports Bay Area, praised Caray's talent and passion for broadcasting, acknowledging him as a rising star in the industry. Caray's father, Chip, currently serves as the TV play-by-play voice for the St. Louis Cardinals, while his grandfather Skip notably called games for the Atlanta Braves for over three decades. Caray's great-grandfather Harry, a recipient of the National Baseball Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award, left a significant mark on baseball broadcasting during his illustrious career covering various teams.

With Caray's addition to the A's coverage team alongside Cavnar and Braden, NBC Sports California is gearing up for an exciting season of baseball ahead. Fans can expect thorough coverage of their beloved Bay Area and California sports teams by signing up for the All Access Daily newsletter.
