In a surprising turn of events, it seems that Bobby Lashley's stint with WWE is nearing its end, and reports suggest that Montell Vontavious Porter (MVP) could also be on his way out of the company. Following this news, discussions have quickly emerged about their next move, and it appears that both men are keen on reuniting The Hurt Business stable, which they were a part of from 2020 to 2022 during their WWE tenure.
MVP recently took to social media and voiced his disappointment that Chief Creative Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque declined to bring back the group, even hinting that the decision may have been racially motivated. Consequently, it's not surprising to learn that Lashley and MVP are interested in recreating a version of The Hurt Business in their future endeavors. Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer has confirmed that both Lashley and Porter's WWE contracts are set to expire "relatively soon," and he has shed some light on their plans.
Meltzer revealed, "I know there is talk of them trying to get into AEW. Technically, nobody can talk to them yet as their contracts haven't expired, but it is assumed that WWE believes they are leaving, and they are looking to relaunch 'The Hurt Business.'"
While it remains uncertain whether they will retain the name, as WWE has filed trademark claims for "The Hurt Business" for various entertainment services and merchandise, MVP has reportedly made attempts to gain ownership of the name. This suggests the possibility of the group, including potentially free agent Shelton Benjamin, revitalizing their brand within AEW. However, any advancement on this front ultimately depends on Tony Khan, the owner of AEW.
In recent months, Benjamin has been active on the independent wrestling scene but has not committed to a long-term contract that would impede him from joining forces with Lashley and MVP in AEW or another wrestling company. Cedric Alexander, the fourth member of The Hurt Business, remains contracted to WWE and was recently moved to the NXT roster.
If a move to AEW or another promotion becomes a reality for Lashley, Porter, and their companions, rebranding would likely be necessary due to WWE's trademark claims. It remains to be seen whether this talented group will find their way back to the spotlight and reclaim the success they enjoyed as part of The Hurt Business.
As fans eagerly await further developments, the potential reunion of Lashley, MVP, and their allies in AEW could bring a new dynamic and electrifying presence to the world of professional wrestling.
