Former NFL standout Richard Sherman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Saturday by the Washington State Patrol. The arrest followed a traffic stop where Trooper Jordan Hazzard-Thomas reported smelling intoxicants and noticing Sherman's bloodshot and watery eyes. Sherman was stopped for speeding at 79 mph in a 60 mph zone around 2 am local time.

Sherman, a three-time All-Pro cornerback, rose to fame during his 11-year NFL career, most notably with the Seattle Seahawks, where he helped secure a Super Bowl title in 2013. Despite his on-field success, Sherman has had legal troubles in the past, as he pleaded guilty in Seattle in 2022 to misdemeanor charges related to a previous incident involving drunken driving and domestic disturbance, as well as a criminal infraction for speeding in a construction zone.

The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office stated that Sherman is expected to appear in court on Monday in connection with his recent arrest. Sherman, who has also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-Decade Team of the 2010s in 2020. Additionally, Sherman has worked as a football analyst on Amazon's 'Thursday Night Football' coverage following his retirement from professional football.
