SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) - Reyes Moronta, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in the Dominican Republic, as announced by one of his former teams on Monday.

The 31-year-old Moronta, who played for the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Los Angeles Angels over six seasons, met with the fatal accident while riding a motorcycle in the Villa Gonzalez community in the northern part of the country on Sunday night.

The Dominican team Aguilas Cibaenas expressed deep sorrow over Moronta's untimely death, stating on their social media accounts, "We profoundly regret the unexpected death of pitcher Reyes Moronta, who died yesterday."

Last week, Moronta was released from the Bravos de Leon team of the Mexican League after posting an 8.69 ERA with 24 strikeouts and four saves in 19 2/3 innings pitched.

"The Aguilas board, the baseball operations department, and players share the pain with his family, and we pray for his eternal rest," the team lamented in their social media post. The loss of Reyes Moronta has left the baseball community mourning the departure of a talented and promising pitcher.
