The trial, which took place in December 2023, found Majors legally guilty of striking his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
The charges against Majors included assault in the third degree and aggravated assault in the second degree. While the actor was found not guilty of one count of assault in the third degree and not guilty of aggravated assault in the second degree, he still faced a potential jail term of up to a year based on the charges.
Majors was arrested on March 25 on charges of assault, strangulation, and harassment after an alleged incident with Jabbari, whom he had met on the set of a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) feature. Jabbari was hospitalized with minor injuries to her head and neck, and a temporary order of protection was granted to her ahead of the court date.
The trial, originally scheduled for May 9, was later postponed to November. During the proceedings, other accusations of toxic behavior on set and additional charges of assault from various other accusers came to light.
Manhattan Judge Michael Gaffey handed down the sentence, which includes a one-year domestic violence treatment program and a permanent order of protection against any contact with Jabbari. Failure to complete the therapy program could result in Majors facing six months in jail. Any violation of the sentencing terms, including contact with Jabbari, could lead to a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail.
Before the sentencing, Jabbari delivered a victim impact statement, expressing concerns that Majors might repeat his violent behavior, stating, "He will do this again. This is a man who thinks he is above the law." Jabbari has also filed a defamation lawsuit against Majors, claiming that he has repeatedly called her a liar and attempted to discredit her.
Majors, in an interview with ABC News in January 2024, expressed shock at being found guilty and expressed his wish to know how Jabbari's injuries were inflicted, implying his innocence.
Jonathan Majors rose to fame in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after portraying Kang the Conqueror in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania." However, his career and personal life have now been overshadowed by these legal battles and serious allegations.
It remains to be seen how the drama surrounding Jonathan Majors will unfold as he embarks on his domestic violence treatment program, faces the defamation lawsuit, and attempts to rebuild his public image amidst these troubling accusations.
