Former Florida Atlantic standout guard Johnell Davis has made a commitment to play for the Arkansas basketball team, according to reports. Known as one of the best players in the transfer portal, Davis's decision to join the Razorbacks brings a significant addition to Coach John Calipari's roster.
Despite still going through the NBA draft process, Davis has caught the attention of multiple teams and has several workouts lined up in the coming weeks, sources have revealed. His performance in these sessions will determine whether he secures an invitation to the NBA draft combine.
Standing at 6-foot-4, Davis tested the NBA draft waters last year by participating in the G League Elite Camp but ultimately decided to return to Florida Atlantic. This decision proved fruitful as he had his best season yet, earning AAC Player of the Year honors. Davis showcased his skills by averaging career-high statistics, including 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. Additionally, his impressive shooting ability saw him connect on 41.4% of his 3-point attempts.
One of the standout moments of Davis' season was in FAU's victory over Arizona in Las Vegas, where he led the team with 35 points and nine rebounds. He also had two other notable performances, scoring 30 points against UAB and posting 34 points against UTSA, contributing to an overtime win.
Davis was a key contributor to FAU's Final Four team in the 2022-23 season. In 13 games, he started for the Owls, averaging 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. His exceptional display in the NCAA tournament second-round victory over Fairleigh Dickinson, where he compiled 29 points and 12 rebounds, further demonstrated his talent and potential.
By committing to Arkansas, Davis joins a roster that Coach Calipari has been diligently rebuilding since his arrival in Fayetteville. Davis is the marquee addition to the team thus far, joining other transfer players, including Jonas Aidoo from Tennessee and Zvonimir Ivisic from Kentucky. Additionally, the Razorbacks have secured commitments from top recruits Boogie Fland, Karter Knox, and Billy Richmond, who were previously committed to Kentucky.
As the NBA draft process continues, Davis's commitment to Arkansas brings excitement and anticipation to Razorbacks fans. His skill set and experience will undoubtedly add significant value to the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
