Charlotte County Deputy Sgt. Dave Musgrove displayed heroism and quick thinking on the night of Feb. 8 when he responded to a severe car crash on a state highway near Englewood. The deputy's body camera footage captured the dramatic rescue as he came to the aid of a mother and her young children involved in the accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, Musgrove immediately sprang into action, extracting a toddler from a booster seat and ensuring the child's safety. Amidst the chaos, he discovered an infant trapped beneath a deceased motorcyclist. With assistance from passing drivers, Musgrove managed to free the infant and performed life-saving chest compressions until the baby resumed breathing.

Sheriff Bill Prummell praised Musgrove's poise and heroic efforts, stating that his actions ultimately saved the life of the infant. The mother of the rescued children, Kayleigh Foley, expressed her gratitude towards Musgrove, referring to him as a hero to their family.

Currently, the infant is being treated for a brain injury at a St. Petersburg hospital, where she remains in intensive care. Musgrove, humble in his response to the accolades, credited his training for guiding his actions during the harrowing rescue.
