Florida Gators junior pitcher and first baseman, Jac Caglianone, made history on Friday night by homering in his ninth consecutive game, tying the NCAA record. The Gators faced a 5-2 loss to Vanderbilt, but Caglianone's 23rd blast of the season in the top of the sixth inning was a standout moment.

Caglianone's 401-foot home run not only tied the record set by Nevada's Tyler Bosetti in 2021 but also extended his hitting streak to 17 games and his on-base streak to 24 games. Florida's head coach, Kevin O'Sullivan, expressed his awe at the accomplishment, stating, "It's something we've never seen before, honestly, and we've had some really good hitters over the last 16 or 17 years."

Hailing from Tampa's Plant High School, known for producing notable players like Wade Boggs, Pete Alonso, and Kyle Tucker, Caglianone is now just one home run shy of Georgia first baseman Charlie Condon for the NCAA lead. In the 2023 season, the preseason first-team All-American set a school record with an impressive 33 homers.

Caglianone's remarkable feat has captured the attention of baseball enthusiasts across the nation. Ranked as the fifth top prospect in MLB.com's 2024 draft prospects, Caglianone has been making waves both on the plate and on the mound. As a pitcher, he holds a perfect 4-0 record this season, recording 49 strikeouts in 39.1 innings.

The 21-year-old phenom will have the opportunity to break the NCAA record on Saturday as the Gators conclude their series against the 13th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. Caglianone is expected to contribute his skills as both a hitter and starting pitcher for the game, adding to the anticipation surrounding this record-breaking attempt.

As the baseball world eagerly awaits Caglianone's next move, one thing is certain - his exceptional talent and versatility make him a force to be reckoned with. Whether Caglianone secures his place in history or not, his extraordinary achievements have already etched his name in the annals of collegiate baseball.
