Several areas in southern Michigan have been put under Flood Warnings by the National Weather Service as the remnants of the Beryl storm system continue to impact the region. Widespread light to moderate rainfall persists across much of Lower Michigan on Wednesday morning, leading to the issuance of Flood Warnings for a few streams.
Three locations in Lower Michigan are currently under Flood Warnings. The Grand River in Jackson County is forecasted to rise nearly a foot above flood stage by Wednesday morning, prompting the largest Flood Warning. Areas along High Street, Lewis Street, and Losey Street are advised to prepare for minor flooding.
Moving north, a Flood Warning is also in effect for the Sycamore Creek at Holt in Ingham County until Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service predicts the river to rise just under a foot above flood stage by Thursday morning. Residents along Lansing Municipal Golf Course and sections of East Mt. Hope Road should take precautions against minor flooding.
Additionally, a Flood Warning has been issued for the Portage River at Vicksburg in Kalamazoo County until Friday afternoon. The forecast indicates that the river will rise over a foot above flood stage by Thursday evening, resulting in minor flooding in the area.
To address potential flooding risks, a Flood Watch is in effect until Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service has also issued a Hydrologic Outlook to address the possibility of less impactful flooding.
It is essential for residents to exercise caution during this time and never attempt to drive through flood waters. The National Weather Service advises everyone to "Turn Around, Don't Drown" as flood waters can be powerful and potentially carry dangerous chemicals that are difficult to detect.
As the remnants of the Beryl storm system continue to affect Michigan, residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest information from local authorities and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
