Authorities reported a fiery crash involving two big rigs on the southbound 5 Freeway in Granada Hills, resulting in one person being injured and multiple lanes being shut down. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Roxford Street, as stated by the Los Angeles Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash was reported around 12:20 p.m., and one of the drivers managed to escape from his burning cab. Fortunately, several passing motorists stopped to assist and extinguish the flames on the driver's clothes and body. The injured driver was swiftly transported to a trauma center for critical burn injuries.

As a result of the crash investigation, some lanes on the southbound 5 Freeway had to be blocked, leading to a significant traffic backup in the area. The exact duration for all lanes to reopen remains unclear at this time.

Approximately 80 firefighters were dispatched to the scene and it took them nearly 40 minutes to successfully extinguish the flames emanating from one of the big rigs involved in the collision. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by truck drivers on the road and the importance of quick response and assistance from fellow motorists during emergencies. As authorities continue the investigation, commuters are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the traffic congestion caused by the lane closures.

The safety of all individuals involved in this incident remains the top priority for the authorities, who are working diligently to clear the wreckage and reopen the lanes as soon as possible.
