Fatal Woonsocket Crash Results in One Death and Arrest of 45-Year-Old Driver

One Dead and One Arrested in Woonsocket Crash
Woonsocket, RI - A tragic two-vehicle crash in Woonsocket on Saturday night has left one person dead and resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old man. The collision occurred at the intersection of Bernon and Maple Streets at around 10:06 p.m. Emergency crews swiftly responded to the scene.
The first car involved in the crash was occupied by three adults. The driver, a 64-year-old woman, and the front seat passenger, a 25-year-old man, sustained injuries and were immediately transported to Rhode Island Hospital for medical treatment. Tragically, the back seat passenger, identified as a 71-year-old man, was found unresponsive with serious injuries. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at Landmark Hospital.
The second vehicle involved in the crash had a 34-year-old female passenger and was being driven by 45-year-old Samuel Adams, both residents of Woonsocket. Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas Oates stated that Adams was taken into custody on suspicion of operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Adams has since been charged with driving while under the influence, death resulting, and driving to endanger, death resulting.
Adams made his initial appearance at Woonsocket police headquarters on Sunday, where he was given a surety bail of $25,000. He will be taken to the ACI and held until his formal arraignment at the 6th District Court on Monday morning. Chief Oates emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and Adams may face additional charges as more information surfaces.
The identities of the victims have not been released by the authorities at this time. The Woonsocket community is grieving the loss of the 71-year-old victim, and thoughts are with the injured individuals as they recover from their injuries.
