In a tragic accident that occurred earlier this week, a small plane crash near Interstate 40 in Nashville has claimed the lives of a Canadian family. The victims have been identified as Victor Dotsenko, 43, his wife Rimma, 39, and their three young children - 12-year-old David, 10-year-old Adam, and 7-year-old Emma.
The Dotsenko family, hailing from King Township in Ontario, Canada, were on board the aircraft when it tragically plummeted out of the sky. The incident has left the tight-knit community of King Township reeling with grief.
The details of the crash emerged through audio recordings obtained from the wreckage. Victor Dotsenko can be heard informing air traffic controllers that he was experiencing engine and power failure and needed emergency permission to land. In a distressing moment captured on the recording, Dotsenko stated, "I'm going to be landing, I don't know where."
Investigations are now underway by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to determine the cause of the crash. The aircraft involved in the incident has been identified as a Piper PA-32R, referred to as such in the radio recordings.
According to Don Aaron, a spokesperson for the Metro Nashville Police, the control tower at John C. Tune Airport received a distress message around 7:40 p.m. Eventually, the plane crashed near mile marker 202 along Interstate 40 eastbound, in the West Nashville neighborhood, approximately three miles away from the airport.
Before the tragedy unfolded, the flight had originated in Ontario and made stops along the way for refueling purposes. The plane had visited Erie, Pennsylvania, and Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Aaron McCarter, an investigator from the NTSB, stated that the aircraft had been flying on a normal flight path with no reported mechanical issues before the emergency was declared.
The news of this devastating accident has prompted an outpouring of condolences from both local and international communities. Mayor Steve Pellegrini of King Township expressed his deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the Dotsenko family, emphasizing the profound loss suffered by their tight-knit community.
As investigations continue, authorities are working to uncover the exact circumstances that led to this heart-wrenching crash. The untimely demise of the Dotsenko family serves as a tragic reminder of the risks associated with air travel and the importance of ensuring aviation safety.
The FAA and NTSB investigators are cooperating to determine the factors that led to the engine failure and power loss experienced by the ill-fated Piper PA-32R, aiming to prevent such tragedies in the future.
