Officials from the Polk County Sheriff's Office in Des Moines are currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred on Friday morning in the 5100 block of Northeast 17th Street. The incident, which led to the deaths of two individuals, is being treated as a murder-suicide according to authorities.

The investigation began shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday when officials responded to reports of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival, a portion of Northeast 17th Street was closed off as investigators worked at the scene. The bodies of two deceased males were discovered, and evidence and witness statements suggest that the suspect in the case shot the victim before taking his own life.

Both the victim and the suspect were pronounced dead at the scene, and their identities have not been released by authorities. The investigation is currently ongoing, though the sheriff's office has assured that there is no threat to the public stemming from this incident.
