In the early hours of March 9, a tragic shooting occurred at an illegal party in southwest San Antonio, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old woman and the injury of a 29-year-old man, according to Texas officials. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar provided details about the incident during a news briefing posted on Facebook.
Authorities responded to a call about a shooting at a "rave-type party" held inside a former Knights of Columbus hall. Sheriff Salazar revealed that the building was not supposed to be occupied, and both water and electricity had been illegally connected to it. The event had been advertised on social media, attracting a large crowd. Witnesses reported that the building was packed when the gunfire erupted.
While the exact cause of the shooting remains unclear, Sheriff Salazar stated that there was a disagreement between two or more groups at the party. Tragically, the 21-year-old woman was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, while the 29-year-old man sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Disturbingly, witnesses informed deputies that some individuals were seen recording the dying woman instead of offering assistance. Sheriff Salazar condemned this behavior as "cold-blooded and disturbing," expressing his shock at the callousness of those present.
Despite the large number of attendees at the party, only around 20 witnesses remained at the scene when law enforcement arrived, and they have been uncooperative with the investigation thus far. Sheriff Salazar appealed to other witnesses to come forward and provide information to assist in the case. He also anticipated that there might be video footage of the incident and urged anyone in possession of such evidence to share it with investigators.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office has taken someone into custody who returned to the scene later to look for a cell phone. Although blood was discovered on his pants, there is currently no indication that he was involved in the shooting.
Officials remain uncertain about the exact number of shooters involved, as it is possible that there were several. Sheriff Salazar emphasized the importance of obtaining any available video evidence that could shed light on the incident.
This senseless act of violence has shaken the local community, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Bexar County Sheriff's Office at 210-335-6000.
The investigation into the fatal shooting at the illegal party is ongoing, as law enforcement continues to gather evidence and seek cooperation from witnesses to bring those responsible to justice.
