### Spectator Injured by Falling Concrete Piece at Dodger Stadium During Dodgers-Yankees Game
During Friday night's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, a piece of concrete fell from the top tier of Dodger Stadium, striking a fan. The unfortunate incident occurred during the third inning of the game in Section 10 reserve, which is located between home plate and first base.
Ricardo Aquino, a Yankees fan from Mexico City, was the one hit in the back by the falling debris. "He's in some pain, but all it was, was the hit. He's not bleeding, but he's in some pain," explained Alvaro Baeza, another fan who translated The Athletic's interview with Aquino.
Following the incident, stadium security guards and a police officer attended to Aquino, providing him with medical attention. The piece of concrete was taken away by the officer, who confiscated it from another fan nearby. Despite the initial shock and discomfort, Aquino eventually returned to his seat with an ice pack.
Witnesses to the incident expressed their concerns about safety at the aging stadium. Fans Lewis Loy of Wilmington, California, and Wilmer Rivas of Los Angeles saw the piece of concrete hit Aquino. "Me personally, to see some rocks fall like that, I would be clearing out this whole area. How do you know it's not going to fall anymore? It could have hit a kid," remarked Loy.
Jessica Coria, a Los Angeles resident and season ticket holder, was sitting in the row in front of Aquino. Recalling the moment, she said, "I thought someone had thrown something and then I was like, 'We should get security,' and then (Aquino) showed us the rock, and it was clearly from the stadium that fell on him."
The Dodgers have acknowledged the incident in a statement to The Athletic but have refrained from commenting further until all information is gathered. Dodger Stadium, now 63 years old, shows visible signs of wear, particularly in the area above Aquino's seat where the concrete fell.
Fans are now questioning the safety protocols at the stadium, emphasizing that given the high cost of tickets, their safety should be a top priority. The Dodgers went on to win the game 8-5, but the incident left a lasting concern for those who witnessed it.
