A recent incident at a downtown Manhattan courthouse raised concerns when an envelope containing white powder was sent to Justice Arthur Engoron, the New York City judge who presided over former President Donald Trump's civil fraud trial. Although the judge imposed a nearly half-billion dollar judgment against Trump, sources confirmed that he was never in any danger. The emergency response from police and fire officials was prompted by the discovery of the envelope, which was addressed to Justice Engoron. Preliminary tests on the white powder turned out negative, with further tests being conducted as a precautionary measure. The letter was received in the courthouse's operations office, indicating limited exposure to two court officers to the substance. Justice Engoron had previously faced multiple threats, including a bomb threat at his Long Island home during the closing arguments of Trump's civil fraud trial. Engoron had implemented a limited gag order on Trump's statements to protect court staff, and a similar gag order is now being sought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for Trump's upcoming criminal trial, scheduled to begin next month just two blocks away from the downtown Manhattan courthouse.
