LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Presley family in Lexington is celebrating this holiday season with immense gratitude as they welcome back Emily Presley after her remarkable journey of undergoing a double lung transplant. The 46-year-old STEM teacher at Wellington Elementary School was previously in the pink of health until May 2022 when her life took an unexpected turn.

Presley initially believed she had contracted a common cold, but soon realized that something much more serious was afflicting her. After spending 16 months battling her condition in hospitals across Chicago, she underwent the life-saving double lung transplant at Northwestern Medical Center.

In October, Emily Presley was joyfully welcomed back home to Lexington with open arms. The community came together to show their support for her recovery, with an outpouring of love and well wishes.

Reflecting on her return, Presley expressed her gratitude, stating, "It was in my face when we came home. There's like all of these people outside to welcome me home. I think that made it very real." The support from family, friends, and the medical team at Northwestern has been instrumental in her recovery.

During her arduous journey, Emily's husband, Jeff Presley, highlighted the unwavering support received from loved ones who ensured their children, 13-year-old Jackson and 16-year-old Ella, were able to visit them in Chicago. He emphasized that without this vital support network, their family's strength and resilience would not have been possible.

Now, as the Presley family rejoices in the comfort of their home, they cherish the little things in life: being together, appreciating the company of loved ones, and relishing the joy of ordinary moments. Emily Presley, still overwhelmed by the support she received, urges others to cherish their own family and loved ones. "Enjoy your people, enjoy life, don't complain about it, and love on your people because that is the most important thing," she said.

Looking ahead, Emily Presley's focus is on returning to the classroom at Wellington Elementary School, where she hopes to inspire and educate her students once again. She also nurtures aspirations of traveling with her family and cherishing every moment of togetherness.

As Emily shares her story of resilience and love, she hopes to inspire others and make a positive impact in their lives. Her journey serves as a reminder to appreciate the invaluable connections and to embrace the blessings of life.

The Presley family's remarkable tale of endurance and the power of community support has touched hearts and serves as a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
