According to a recent report by Informa Connect Academy, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), is projected to become the world's first trillionaire by 2027. The report highlights Musk's staggering wealth growth rate of 110% per year as the primary reason behind this prediction. As of the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk already holds the position of the world's richest person with a net worth of $251 billion.
The analysis conducted by the academy also suggests that Gautam Adani, the founder of a business conglomerate in India, could potentially become the second trillionaire in the world. Adani's annual growth rate of 123% indicates that he could achieve this milestone by 2028.
Additionally, the report identifies Jensen Huang, the CEO of tech firm Nvidia, and Prajogo Pangestu, an energy and mining mogul from Indonesia, as potential trillionaires by 2028 if they maintain their current trajectories.
Bernard Arnault, the boss of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, with a net worth of approximately $200 billion, is predicted to join the trillionaire club in 2030. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook), is also projected to reach this status in the same year.
While there are a handful of companies that have achieved valuations exceeding $1 trillion, the race to become the first trillionaire has captivated public interest for years. The world's first billionaire, John D. Rockefeller, emerged in 1916 as the largest shareholder and founder of Standard Oil in the United States.
Critics argue that the accumulation of immense wealth poses societal challenges. A recent report highlights that the richest 1% of the global population emits more carbon, a primary driver of the climate crisis, than the poorest 66%.
Notably, just days before Informa Connect Academy identified Musk as the frontrunner for trillionaire status, he faced backlash from numerous users of X (formerly Twitter) for a controversial post. Musk ultimately deleted the post, and the White House condemned an interview he conducted with Carlson as "a disgusting and sadistic insult to all Americans."
In August, Musk publicly announced his support for Donald Trump's bid for a second presidency as the Republican nominee. The Democratic vice-president, Kamala Harris, is also running in the upcoming election.
As the world eagerly awaits the possibility of Elon Musk's ascent to trillionaire status, the debate surrounding the implications of immense wealth continues to persist.
