**Liberty vs. Appalachian State Football Game Canceled Due to Hurricane Helene**

Efforts by Liberty University to relocate their scheduled football game against Appalachian State were unsuccessful, leading to the game's cancellation. Liberty had even offered to cover travel expenses for the Mountaineers, but the two schools could not finalize the details for the move.

Both teams initially shared October 19 as an available date for a potential rescheduling. However, Appalachian State has officially announced that the game will not be rescheduled. Liberty's statements have not explicitly ruled out rescheduling, leaving a slight possibility open.

Liberty Athletic Director Ian McCaw is actively seeking a replacement for the canceled game. He stated that securing a 12th game is crucial for the Flames, especially if they aim to contend for a College Football Playoff bid. Liberty needs to play a full 12-game schedule, as playing only 11 games could negatively impact their postseason aspirations.

The decision to cancel the game arose due to the severe weather conditions brought by Hurricane Helene, which caused record rainfall and severe flooding in Boone, North Carolina, and surrounding areas. The storm's impact made it unsafe to proceed with the football matchup initially scheduled for a Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM.

Liberty's next game will be on October 8 against FIU, set to take place at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia, with a kickoff time of 7 PM.
