The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to release linebacker Devin White, concluding his brief tenure with the team after being benched for three weeks. White, who signed with the Eagles promising to give his all in any role, had expressed his willingness to stay ready and contribute wherever needed. "At the end of the day, it's not my call," he mentioned on September 13. "I'll just do what's asked of me and just stay ready."

Head Coach Nick Sirianni announced that rookie fifth-round pick Jeremiah Trotter Jr. would step in as the backup MIKE linebacker. Trotter has only appeared in three defensive snaps so far, all during the game against Tampa. The Eagles’ linebacker corps also includes veteran Oren Burks and second-year undrafted player Ben VanSumeren. Burks, formerly with the Green Bay Packers, and VanSumeren have yet to play a defensive snap this season, though VanSumeren has seen action on one offensive play.

Sirianni explained that the decision to release White was influenced partly by the coaches' confidence in Trotter, Burks, and VanSumeren. "I think it just gives you a perspective of what we feel about the rest of that room and the guys that we have in that room," he said. He praised the players' progress and emphasized their potential for growth under linebacker coach Bobby King's guidance.

Despite the setback, White joins a notable list of former Eagles who never played a game in the green uniform, such as Frank Gore, Joe Flacco, Myles Jack, and Tim Tebow. "Ever since Devin got here, I just thought he was a really great pro," Sirianni added, commending White's professionalism and class in handling the situation.

With the release of White, the Eagles look to focus on the development and execution of their current linebacker group, anticipating further growth and contributions from their young and veteran players alike.
